An electron emission source and an electron emission device having the same are provided to increase lifetime and to improve reliability by enhancing electron emission characteristics. A cathode electrode(120) is formed on a substrate(110). A composition for forming an electron emission(160) is electrically connected to the cathode electrode formed on the substrate. The composition includes a carbon-based material having a carboxyl radical. The carbon-based material having the carboxyl radical is formed by reaction between a methacrylic-acid alkyl ester having an alkyl radical of C1 to C4 and the carbon-based material. The methacrylic-acid alkyl ester is formed of one selected from a group including methacrylic-acid methyl, methacrylic-acid ethyl, methacrylic-acid n-profile, methacrylic-acid isopropyl, methacrylic-acid n-butyl, methacrylic-acid i-butyl, methacrylic-acid t-butyl.
