The heat exchanger has a pair of storage tanks (2, 3), and a set of parallel flat pipes (4, 5) arranged between the storage tanks. Each storage tank is configured such that an outer plate (7), an inner plate (8) and an intermediate plate (9) are soldered together. The exchanger is designed such that it satisfies a specific relation between height of flat pipes, distance between each of opposite longitudinal end faces of flat pipes and an outer surface of the corresponding intermediate plate, and width of each communication opening of the intermediate plate.
