An apparatus for protecting a power cable is provided to prevent the power cable from being caught in a master during the lift of a cage by strong wind since more than a predetermined swaying range of the power cable can be detected, allowing a limit switch to deactivate a motor of the cage. An apparatus for protecting a power cable for a lift comprises a master standing on a building, a guide rail standing on the master, a cage(40) having a motor-driven pinion meshed with the guide rail to be moved along the guide rail, a power cable(C) whose one end is connected to the motor of the cage and the other end is connected to a stationary external power source, and a trolley for keeping the power cable tight-stretched. A limit switch unit(210) and a cable arm(220) are secured on a cage frame(41) of the cage. The cable arm comprises a tubular unit(221) where the power cable is penetrated, and a bracket(222) integrated with the tubular unit, having support points(P1,P2,P3) disposed in an equilateral triangle facing the cage frame, and mounted on the cage frame by bolts(B1,B2,B3). The bolt disposed on the support point is secured on the cage frame while penetrating a long hole(222a) on a lower side of the bracket, with its head projected, wherein the head is spaced from the surface facing the bracket. The limit switch unit comprises a rectangular case(211), a hinge shaft(213) mounted on a projected portion(212) on the lower side of the rectangular case, a bar(215) wherein a base end makes external contact with the hinge shaft, capable of elastic rotation and a front end is mounted with a rotary contact roller(214), and a limit switch(216) elastically retractable to exert pressure on the bar when the bar is rotated about the hinge shaft. The contact roller is elastically compressed at one side of the bracket, rolling along the one side. The limit switch is connected to a control unit to allow the control unit to deactivate the motor which lifts the cage, when pressed by the bar.
