Production of containers (B), especially bags, made of flexible material comprises arranging an upper flat web above a lower flat web (2) and conveying both webs in alignment. The upper web is divided into three upper web strips (3-5). The central strip (4) covers the central strip region of the lower web between the subsequent container rows. V-shaped folded continuous base strips of flexible material forming the subsequent container base are placed between the outer edges of the outer upper web strips (3, 5) and the lower web. The outer edges are aligned with the outer edges of the upper and lower webs. Longitudinal (10) and transverse connecting seams (11) for the base or side seal of the container and longitudinal connecting seams (13, 14) for connecting the central upper web strip to the central strip region of the lower web are attached. Transverse perforations (12) extending to the central strip region of the lower web are produced for lateral separation of the containers.
