A high pressure metal halide discharge lamp comprising a base insulator (12, Figure 1) bearing an inner vessel (2 and 3) surrounded by an enveloping bulb 24. Electrical terminals are provided comprising power supply lines 10 and extension wires 23 which are mechanically connected to one another, wherein at least one extension wire 23 is shaped to form a coil 22 twisted onto the end of a power supply line 10. Preferably the power supply line 10 has a ratio of 1.25 to 2.0 with respect to the diameter of the extension wire 23, and a ratio of 1.1 to 1.3 with respect to the inner diameter of the coil 22 in an unspread state. |
