The data transfer from and to an engine control unit (100) of a motor vehicle, comprises connecting a first communication interface (110A) of the motor vehicle with a development tool (101) and a second communication interface (110B) with functional units during the development phase of the control unit, transferring data from the control unit to the tool and vice versa over the first communication interface by using a first communication protocol, disconnecting a link between the first communication interface and the tool, and connecting the interface with further functional units. The data transfer from and to an engine control unit (100) of a motor vehicle, comprises connecting a first communication interface (110A) of the motor vehicle with a development tool (101) and a second communication interface (110B) with functional units during the development phase of the control unit, transferring data from the control unit over the first communication interface to the development tool by using a first communication protocol, transferring data from the development tool over the first communication interface to the control unit by using the first communication protocol, disconnecting the link between the first communication interface and the development tool, connecting the first communication interface with further functional units, and transferring data between the control unit and the functional units over the first communication interface using a second communication protocol. The transfer of data from the control unit to the development tool or from the development tool to the control unit is accomplished respectively as a unidirectional data transfer, and is alternated in predetermined time intervals. A step for changing-over a switch (105), which alternately connects the first communication interface with either a first communication unit or a second communication unit, is provided. The first and second communication unit control the data transfer by using the first and the second communication protocol respectively. The first communication protocol is an asynchronous serial interface protocol. The second communication protocol is a controller area network (CAN) bus protocol. The transfer of data from the development tool to the control unit comprises of saving the data in a memory unit that is intended in the control unit, and of the measurement, adjustment, debugging and/or bypassing of functions during the development phase of the control unit.
|
