The cylinder (6) has balls (9) with a core (11) made of a core material e.g. copper and a mantle (10) made of mantle material e.g. steel and steel alloy, where the mantle surrounds the core. The heat conductivity of the core material is larger than the heat conductivity of the mantle material. The core has a specific radius and preset wall thickness, where the core is designed in a hollow shape. A retaining device is provided for retaining a printing plate to a form cylinder (7). An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a cylinder.
