Paper mill process to de-water or glaze a web of paper by exposure to compressed gas followed by high pressure drum gap

In a paper mill process to de-water or glaze a web (1) of paper, tissue paper or carton the web feeds thru a dewatering zone (8) in which water is displaced by gas e.g. compressed air. The web feeds thru the dewatering zone in contact with a membrane (2). After leaving the dewatering zone the web passes through a press gap in which it is subjected to pressure of at least 1 Mpa preferably 8 - 15 Mpa. Also claimed is a commensurate dewatering assembly.
