The piston engine has two separate piston devices, which are driven in opposite directions, under the effect of burnable gases expanding in a common combustion chamber that is provided in a common cylinder. Pressure and temperature of supercharged air are freely selectable by external compressors, intermediate coolers and recuperators. Free-flight pistons are connected by a piston rod with each rotor device of the linear generator in a fixed or flexible manner. The piston devices are fixed by a mechanical or hydraulic, freely controllable clamping device, with respect to the cylinder.
