A bis-aryloxy-containing transition metal catalyst system for producing an ethylene homopolymer or copolymer is provided to obtain a desired catalyst system having a high catalytic activity and excellent thermal stability from easily handled and eco-friendly starting materials. A bis-aryloxy-containing transition metal catalyst system for producing an ethylene homopolymer or copolymer comprises a cyclopentadiene derivative and two aryl oxide ligands substituted with an aryl derivative at the ortho position, has no crosslinking of the ligands, and is represented by the following formula 1. In formula 1, M is a Group 4 transition metal element in the Periodic Table; Cp is a cyclopentadienyl or a derivative capable of eta^5-bonding with the central metal atom; each of R1-R9 on the arylphenoxide ligand independently represents H, halogen, non-substituted or halogen-substituted C1-C20 linear or non-linear alkyl-containing silyl group, non-substituted or halogen substituted C6-C30 aryl group, non-substituted or halogen substituted C7-C30 arylalkyl group, non-substituted or halogen substituted C1-C20 alkyl group-containing alkoxy group, or C6-C20 aryl-substituted siloxy group, C1-C20 hydrocarbyl-containing amido or phosphinido group, or C1-C20 alkyl-substituted mercapto or nitro, wherein these substituents are optionally bound to each other to form a ring; X is halogen, C1-C20 alkyl other than the Cp derivative, C7-C30 arylalkyl, C1-C20 alkyl-containing alkoxy group, C3-C20 alkyl-substituted siloxy group, or C1-C20 hydrocarbyl-containing amido group. |
