<p>A liquid crystal composition having a negative dielectric constant anisotropy whose absolute value is large; and a relevant display device; and a compound having a negative dielectric constant anisotropy whose absolute value is large. There is provided a trifluoronaphthalene derivative of the general formula: (I) Further, there is provided a liquid crystal composition comprising the trifluoronaphthalene derivative, and provided a display device making use of the same. This liquid crystal composition is characterized by being large in the absolute value of dielectric constant anisotropy, so that a liquid crystal display device utilizing the liquid crystal composition as a structural member is useful as a liquid crystal display device of vertical alignment system, IPS, etc.</p> |
