<p>A particulate matter generator and collector is provided to perform an experiment for testing the ability of exhaust system components for collecting particulate matter. A particulate matter generator and collector(10) includes a fuel burner(12) having a nozzle accommodated in a container(14) having a gas inlet and a gas outlet, a unit for detecting a flow rate of gas flowing through the gas inlet, a unit for compulsorily flowing oxidizing gas toward atmosphere from the gas inlet through the container, the gas outlet and a conduit(16), a station for collecting particulate matter from gas flowing through the conduit, and a unit for controlling the unit for compulsorily flowing gas in response to the gas flow rate detected at the gas inlet. The rate of gas flow is kept at a predetermined rate to provide substoichiometric fuel combustion in the container and promote formation of particulate matter.</p> |
