An opening and closing device for an air suction port of an air conditioner is provided to directly control the opening and closing of a front panel by a rotary plate integrated with a rack gear for controlling upper and lower air suction amounts, and to open and close the front panel with a predetermined inclination angle not to expose incorporated parts to the outside. An opening and closing device for an air suction port of an air conditioner includes a driving element mounted to a case(110), first and second stationary rollers(144a,144b) fixed at the inlet port, and a rotary plate guided by the first stationary roller to move. A rack gear(148) is integrally injection-molded with the rotary plate and guided by the second stationary roller to move back and forth. A first pinion gear(141a) is driven to rotate by the driving element. A second pinion gear(141b) is engaged with the first pinion gear and the rack gear. First and second guide grooves(143a,143b) guide the movement of the rotating plate and control the moving distance thereof. The first and second pinion gears rotate oppositely, wherein the first pinion gear rotates forward when opening a front panel and backward when closing the front door. The first and second pinion gears have fastening pins inserted into the first and second guide grooves. |
