A METHOD TO FABRICATE HORIZONTALLY ALIGNED CARBON NANOTUBE FIELD EMITTER USING ELECTROPHORESIS

A method for manufacturing a horizontally aligned carbon nanotube field emitter using electrophoresis is provided to form the large-size carbon nanotube field emitter capable of a uniform electron emission. A method for manufacturing a horizontally aligned carbon nanotube field emitter using electrophoresis includes the steps of: (a) dispersing a carbon nanotube powder and a dispersant into a solvent to prepare a carbon nanotube dispersion; (b) depositing the carbon nanotube dispersion on an electrode to form a carbon nanotube film using the first electrophoresis; (c) dissolving only a dispersant in the solvent to prepare a solution; (d) depositing the solution on the carbon nanotube film to form a dispersant layer using the second electrophoresis; (e) pressing a glass plate on the dispersant layer-covered carbon nanotube film to form a flat surface; (f) drying the dispersant layer-covered carbon nanotube film; and (g) heating the dispersant layer-covered carbon nanotube film to form many uniform cracks, and exposing torn or untorn carbon nanotubes having a clean surface between cracks to produce a carbon nanotube field emitter.
