<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for surely reducing and releasing NO<SB>x</SB>stored in a NO<SB>x</SB>catalyst so as to improve purifying efficiency, in NO<SB>x</SB>reduction processing performed after activation of the NO<SB>x</SB>catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: When the determination of the immediate aftermath of the activation of the NO<SB>x</SB>catalyst is made (S101 to S102), and when it is determined that a predetermined amount or more of NO<SB>x</SB>is stored in the NO<SB>x</SB>catalyst at that time point (S103), NO<SB>x</SB>reduction processing is performed at that time point so as to reduce and release the NO<SB>x</SB>already stored in the NO<SB>x</SB>catalyst (S104). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
