PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original feeder capable of preventing erroneous detection of overlapping feed even when originals with label paper and slip attached thereto are intermingled in an original bundle. SOLUTION: The original feeder includes: at least one overlapping feed sensor that senses overlapping feed of originals and transmitting an overlapping feed sensing signal when overlapped originals are conveyed; a drive section for reciprocating the overlapping feed sensor in a direction orthogonal to the conveying direction of the originals; and a control section that controls the drive section and judges the occurrence of the overlapping feed of the originals on the basis of the overlapping feed sensing signal sensed by the overlapping feed sensor, wherein the control section judges the occurrence of the overlapping feed of the originals when detecting the overlapping feed sensing signal over a width of a prescribed value or more in the width direction orthogonal to the conveying direction of the originals.
