PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for exciting and/or ionizing a material utilizing plasma as an excitation and/or ion source, capable of obtaining high excitation efficiency and ionization efficiency regardless of a material state (in other words, solution state, solid state, composition, size, or the like). SOLUTION: The method for exciting and/or ionizing materials by introducing a material that excites and/or ionizes in plasma 12, in which a material is irradiated with a beam of laser light 2a near the plasma 12 and/or in the plasma 12 and the material irradiated with the beam of laser light 2a is introduced into the plasma 12.
