PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide alumina fibers comprising boron oxide, excellent in heat resistance. SOLUTION: The alumina fibers excellent in heat resistance is obtained by adding water soluble polysaccharides to the dope for prevention of gelling even containing a boron compound in the dope in spinning alumina precursor fibers, and spinning the dope to obtain the precursor fibers and then baking the precursor fibers.
