PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel material for a vessel having sufficiently excellent corrosion resistance even if coating and electrolytic protection are not applied thereto. SOLUTION: The steel for a vessel has a composition comprising 0.01 to 0.3% C, 0.01 to 2% Si, 0.01 to 2% Mn, 0.005 to 0.1 Al,≤0.01% (excluding 0%) P,≤0.005% (excluding 0%) S, 0.01 to 1% Cu, 0.01 to 1% Ni and 0.01 to 1% Cr, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and has a structure composed of, by area ratio, 5 to 25% pearlite, <20% bainite and <10% martensite, and the balance ferrite, and in which the grain size of the ferrite is≤15μm, and the aspect ratio of the pearlite is 3.0 to 20.
