PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead-free glass for coating a fluorescent flat lamp electrode. SOLUTION: The lead-free glass for coating the fluorescent flat lamp electrode essentially comprises, in mol%, 20-50% B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 5-35% SiO<SB>2</SB>, 10-30% ZnO, 0-10% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0-10% SrO, 6-16% BaO, 2-16% Li<SB>2</SB>O, 0-10% Na<SB>2</SB>O+K<SB>2</SB>O, 0-9% Bi<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0-2% CuO+CeO<SB>2</SB>, provided that the molar ratio of (B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>+SiO<SB>2</SB>+Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>)/(Bi<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>+BaO) is≥3.25 and the total amount of MgO and CaO is≤8 mol%.
