ELECTRONIC CAMERA AND IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera and an image processing apparatus provided with a face recognition function for providing a means of realizing designation of a principal object reflecting a user's intention.

SOLUTION: The electronic camera includes: an imaging element; a memory; a face detection section; a face recognition section; and an object designation section. The imaging element applies photoelectric conversion to an object image to produce an image signal. The memory records registration data denoting a characteristic point of a face to be a recognition object. The face detection section detects a face region in a photographed image on the basis of the image signal and extracts the characteristic point of the face of the object from the face region. The face recognition section discriminates whether or not the face region is a recognition object on the basis of data of the characteristic point corresponding to the face region and the registration data. The object designation section designates an object located closest among the recognition objects as a principal object.
