PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antenna element operating stably in which the operating frequency band of an antenna can be varied by simple control. SOLUTION: Each of a plurality of MEMS switches 4A1 (or 4B1) has a movable cut piece 4A (or 4B) of cantilever structure. One end of the movable cut piece is connected to a basic radiation conductor 2. Furthermore, a through-conductor 7 is formed for connecting the center of the basic radiation conductor 2 to a ground conductor 6. When a desired voltage is applied between a control line 5A (or 5B) and the through-conductor 7, the plurality of MEMS switches 4A1 (or 4B1) can be operated by electrostatic force. Furthermore, since the through-conductor 7 is located in the center of the basic radiation conductor 2, the movable cut pieces 4A and 4B can be moved without having impact on the characteristics of an antenna element 100.
