<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary dobby having increased action speed while maintaining the reliability. <P>SOLUTION: The dobby has a lifting unit furnished with an action member 4 loosely fitting to a main shaft 1 of the dobby, a driving member 8 rotating together with the main shaft 1, the first and second engaging members 10, 11 alternately engaging with the driving member 8 and the action member 4, the first resiliency applying means 19 for applying an elastic force to the first and second engaging means 10, 11, and controlling means 14, 15 to shift the first and second engaging means 10, 11 against the force applied by the first resiliency applying means 19. The force applied by the first resiliency applying means 19 is directly loaded on the first engaging member 10 and indirectly loaded on the second engaging member 11.
