PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat display device capable of reducing luminance variation caused by deviation of a track of an electron. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a driving method of a line sequential drive type flat display device wherein gate electrodes 13 are selected as scanning electrodes one after another, the driving method applying a voltage V<SB>R_N1</SB>to a first adjacent gate electrode and a voltage V<SB>R_N2</SB>to a second adjacent gate electrode so as to satisfy (A) V<SB>R_N1</SB><V<SB>R_N2</SB>when an electron emitted from an electron discharge region composed of a selected gate electrode collides against the part of a phosphor region close to the first adjacent gate electrode side and (B) V<SB>R_N1</SB>>V<SB>R_N2</SB>when the electron emitted from the electron emitting region collides against the part of a phosphor region close to the second adjacent gate side based upon a predetermined position in the phosphor region against which the electron emitted from the electron emitting region should collide in a state wherein the voltage V<SB>R_N1</SB>applied to the first adjacent gate electrode adjacent to one of the selected gate electrodes is equal to the voltage V<SB>R_N2</SB>applied to the second adjacent gate electrode adjacent to the other.
