PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical writing type display medium which uses an optical switching layer to improve driving power, display characteristics, and further stability of repetition in AC drive. SOLUTION: The optical writing type display medium includes at least a display layer and the optical switching layer between a pair of electrodes, wherein the optical switching layer has a single layered bipolar photosensitive body containing a charge generation material, a hole transport material, and an electron transport material as the optical switching layer.
