PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus capable of using an image forming unit for forming a toner image of black for a long period. SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus 120 has the image forming unit 100a for forming the toner image of black. The image forming unit 100a comprises a photoreceptor 1a having a conductive base 2, a photosensitive layer 3, and a protective layer 7, a charging means 21 of charging the photoreceptor 1a, an exposing means 30 of forming an electrostatic latent image on the charged photoreceptor 1a, a developing means 25 of forming a toner image by developing the electrostatic latent image with toner, a transfer means 40 of transferring the toner image from the photoreceptor 1a to an intermediate transfer body 50, a cleaning means 27 of removing toner remaining on a surface of the photoreceptor 1a after the toner image is transferred, and a cleaning assist member 60 which cleans the surface of the photoreceptor 1a before the cleaning means 27 removes the toner.
