PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely perform the receiving of molten iron by which in a method for melting a cold-iron source utilizing the heat of the received molten iron from a blast furnace, the unevenness in the melting of the cold-iron source is prevented and the cold-iron source is fully melted and moisture amount and oxygen content in the cold-iron source are controlled when the molten iron from the blast furnace is received. SOLUTION: In the method for melting the cold-iron source, the cold-iron source is beforehand charged into a molten iron receiving vessel for receiving the molten iron produced in the blast furnace, before receiving the molten iron, and the cold-iron source is melted by charging the molten iron into the molten iron receiving vessel already charging the cold-iron source. Then, the cold-iron source is worked so that a typical length L satisfies the formula L=exp(A×√T) and A=0.10C+0.30 according to the molten iron receiving time T and carbon content C (mass%) contained in the cold-iron source.
