PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively cool the heat generated in an ultrasonic probe by controlling it in a refrigerant circulating direction. SOLUTION: A refrigerant circulating container 132 provided near the respective units of a probe head 110, as a heat generation source, and a transmission/reception section 120 in the prove, and a refrigerant cooling section 151 provided in a probe connector section 15 are connected together with cooling pipes 133 and 134, so that refrigerant 131 cooled by the refrigerant cooling section 151 is circulated around the heat generation source via the cooling pipes 133 and 134. In this case, a refrigerant circulating direction setting section 153 sets a cooling priority to the units based on a difference between an actual measurement temperature measured by the probe head 110 and the transmission/reception section 120 and allowable temperatures preset to the units, sets the circulating direction of the refrigerant 131 based on the cooling priority and preferentially cools the heat generation source with the higher cooling priority.
