A vehicle (10) includes a starter-generator assembly (200); portions of the assembly may be disposed within a stator cover (240), which is mounted to a crank case (25) of an engine (2) of the vehicle (10). According to some embodiments, one of at least two operator activated input mechanisms may be selected for starting the starter-generator (200). According to some methods of operation, the starter-generator assembly (200) can be used to pre-set pistons (45) of the engine (2).
