摘要 A video telephony service method using generic telephone networks and Internet networks is provided to use IP addresses efficiently and economically by dynamically allocating an IP address during an actual service period only, without the necessity of always allocating an IP address to every video phone. If the voice processing part of a caller video phone initiates a voice call(61), the voice/image interworking control part of the caller video phone acquires an IP address if an IP address hasn't been allocated(62). Then the voice/image interworking control part accesses a video telephony service server through the Internet and stores the IP address and other connection information in an area corresponding to its own caller ID(63). The voice/image interworking control part of a callee video phone, in connecting the voice call, extracts a caller ID from a call signal received through a generic telephone network(64). If an allocated IP address doesn't exist, the voice/image interworking control part obtains an IP address, accesses the video telephony service server through the Internet, and fetches the IP address of the caller video phone and other connection information from an area corresponding to the extracted caller ID(65,66). If voice communication is connected, the image processing part of the callee video phone initiates video communication through the Internet using a video communication processing protocol, based on the IP address of the caller video phone and other connection information(67). If voice communication is completed, the callee and caller video phones finish video communication and return their IP addresses(68,69).
