PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which an optical sensor is prevented from causing malfunction or reduction in detection sensitivity due to light from a back light or the like by simple constitution.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 includes: a liquid crystal panel in which a liquid crystal layer 14 is formed between a TFT substrate 2 and a CF substrate 25; an optical detection part LS1 provided with a TFT optical sensor having a semiconductor layer 19Lfor detecting external light and a capacitor Cw to which a prescribed reference voltage is charged and in which voltage charged by a leaked current of the TFT optical sensor drops; and an optical sensor reading part Re1 for reading the charged voltage charged to the capacitor in a prescribed reading time, wherein an optical detection part is formed on a surface brought into contact with the liquid crystal layer 14, and the surface of the optical detection part other than the semiconductor layer 19Land its vicinity is covered with a light shielding layer 21.
