PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an obstacle detection device capable of making self-diagnosis about an erroneous detection of an obstacle. SOLUTION: The obstacle detection device 10 equipped with a vehicle speed sensor 2 to detect the speed of the vehicle concerned, transmission/reception wave means S1-Sn to transmit a transmission wave and detect the reflected wave thereof, and an obstacle detection means to detect the obstacle on the basis of the reflected wave detected by the transmission/reception wave means is further furnished with a failure determining means having a steering sensor 3 to detect the turning amount of a steering for detecting an internal failure of the obstacle detection device in case the vehicle speed detected by the vehicle speed sensor 2 is equal to or above the prescribed value and the obstacle detection means continues detecting the obstacle even if the turning amount of the steering detected by the steering sensor 3 is equal to or above the prescribed value.
