PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of processing an original to reuse the original as reverse-side paper efficiently. SOLUTION: The image reader 1 comprises: an image sensor 5 for reading a fed original 51 at a read position P1; a determination means for determining whether there is a surface that can be used as a recording surface, based on information attached to the original 51 for each fed original 51; and conveyance means (rollers R1-R12) for conveying the fed original 51 to the read position P1, and for ejecting paper by aligning the surface usable as the recording surface in one direction for the original 51 that is determined to have a surface usable as a recording surface.
