PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily prevent the variation in movement speed of an intermediate transfer belt which is stretched around rollers and is rotationally driven, when pressing and releasing a cleaning member in an image forming apparatus wherein the cleaning member is pressed to the intermediate transfer belt to remove toner remaining on a surface of the intermediate transfer belt. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes; an intermediate transfer belt 5 which is stretched around a plurality of rollers 9a to 9d and is rotationally driven and to which a toner image formed on an image carrier 1 is transferred; and a cleaning belt which is pressed to the surface of the intermediate transfer belt stretched around the roller 9d below a position where the toner image transferred to the intermediate transfer belt is transferred to a recording medium 6, to remove the toner remaining on the intermediate transfer belt. In this image forming apparatus, the roller in the position where the cleaning member is pressed to the intermediate transfer belt is provided so as to separate from the cleaning member.
