PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dicarboxylic acid compound useful as a raw material for a polyester resin, a polyamide resin, a polyarylate resin, a polybenzoxazole resin, a polybenzothiazole resin or the like, by the use of a short reaction process and with high yield. SOLUTION: The method for producing a dicarboxylic acid compound represented by general formula (3), wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>each represents an organic group comprising a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic ring, or a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic group, is characterized by comprising a step of causing an ester compound to react with an acid dichloride compound.
