The transmitter (3) has a transmitter unit for receiving data from a data source and for transmitting electrical and/or optical signals. A receiver coupler arrangement picks-up the signals, and a receiver receives the signals. The receiver and/or a data sink has a phase locked loop (PLL) for temporal synchronization of the signals. A controller (106) controls the source and/or the unit during an error in reception at the receiver and/or during unlatching of the PLL such that a special resynchronizations signal is transmitted. An independent claim is also included for a method for transmitting data over a rotary transmitter.
