<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evaluate resolution of an image forming apparatus in a short time by a simplified apparatus construction, without being influenced by characteristics of the image forming apparatus and an image reading apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Image input means 13 inputs read image data obtained, by optically reading an image to be evaluated formed on a recording medium, based on original image data. Displacement calculation means 15 estimates displacement of distribution of pixel values of an image represented by the read image data, with respect to an image represented by the original image data. First correction means 16 corrects the read image data so as to eliminate the displacement.
