PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide powder enabling a method for producing a three-dimensional formed article by lamination without using a forming tool in a wider range from the viewpoint of economy as well as the selection of usable raw materials and provide a method for producing the powder. SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method for producing powder suitable for the production of a three-dimensional formed article by lamination without using a forming tool by melting the selected range of each powder layer by applying electromagnetic energy. The production method contains a step to mix a polymer or a copolymer with at least one kind of water-soluble polymeric polyol, a step to dissolve the mixture in water to obtain a dispersion, a step to separate polymer particles or copolymer particles from the dispersion liquid, and a step to wash and dry the separated polymer particles or copolymer particles.
