PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder and an image forming apparatus capable of improving separation performance without increasing the size of the devices. SOLUTION: A tray 403 on which sheets S are placed is provided in a sheet storing part 101 detachably inserted into a device body so as to be liftable/lowerable. Air is blown from the side of the sheets S placed on the tray 403 by an air blowing part 151b to float the sheet S, and the sheet S floated by the air blowing means 151b is sucked and carried by a suction and carrying means 151a. A sheet rear end regulating member 458 for regulating the rear ends of the sheets S placed on the tray 403 is provided in the sheet storing part 101, and the upper end of the rear end regulating member 458 is constituted so as to be retreated to the lower direction.
