PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for identifying the deformation property of a rolling mill of high accuracy by the kiss-roll clamping of a division backup roll type rolling mill. SOLUTION: A rolling mill has a mechanism for supporting a work roll by divided backup rolls in which at least any one of upper and lower roll assemblies is divided into three or more portions. Each divided backup roll has a screw-down device, a load measurement device and a screw-down position measurement device which are independent from each other. A lubrication film having the thickness of≥0.1μm is formed on any roll by using a lubricating oil with its kinematic viscosity at 40°C being <60 mm<SP>2</SP>/s. The upper and lower work rolls are brought into contact with each other, and the load and the screw-down position of each divided backup roll are measured at the clamping screw-down position of the one or more roll assemblies. The parameter group for expressing the deformation property of the rolling mill is obtained based on the data group of these measurement values. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
