PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit which can secure a sufficient light quantity by relatively low electric power while attaining downsizing and reducing the number of parts. SOLUTION: The light source unit 1 for emitting light to the outside comprises an optical fiber 4 for emitting the light from one end, a blue semiconductor laser element 5 for making excitation light be incident on the other end of the optical fiber 4, and dichroic mirrors 6 and 7 disposed on both end sides of the optical fiber 4 and constituting a laser resonator. The core of the optical fiber 4 is formed of glass containing praseodymium ions which emit wavelength converted light when excited by the excitation light of the semiconductor laser element 5, the wavelength of the excitation light is amplified while being converted in the optical fiber 4, and the white light of a rich light quantity is emitted from an emission port part 3.
