<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a method for performing migration in the unit smaller than a file system transparently from a client is not disclosed in a storage system having a plurality of servers adopting a common name space. <P>SOLUTION: In the storage system provided with a plurality of servers and disk sub-systems connected to the plurality of servers, to the file system in the disk sub-system, a unique first identifier is imparted inside the storage system, to at least one of directories included in the file system, a unique second identifier is imparted inside the storage system, and to a file included in the file system, a unique third identifier is imparted inside the file system.
