PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to highly precisely read an original and to downsize a light source. SOLUTION: The scanner apparatus (image reading apparatus) 100 provided with a transmission original use light source section 318 and an imaging element, which are arranged opposite to each other with an original platen for supporting the original inbetween, and reading the optical transmission type original by allowing the imaging element to receive light emitted from the transmission original use light source section 318, includes an imaging element moving mechanism 223 for moving the imaging element in the main scanning direction; and a light source moving mechanism for moving the transmission original use light source section 318 in the main scanning direction in interlocking with the movement by the imaging element moving mechanism 223, and the light source moving mechanism moves the transmission original use light source section 318 in the main scanning direction in interlocking with the movement of the imaging element by the imaging element moving mechanism 223 in the main scanning direction.
