PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for inspecting the defect of tools capable of efficiently and accurately inspecting workpieces being tool chips such as slow away chips of various tools. SOLUTION: The device for inspecting the defect of the tools has a support part 14 for rotatably supporting the workpieces 12 being the tool chips used for a blade edge of the tool and a camera 22 for imageably forming the workpieces 12 illuminated by a lighting system 20. The device comprises: a display device 26 for displaying images imaged by the camera 22; and an image processing device 26 for image-processing the images of the workpieces 12 imaged by the camera 22. The device comprises: a stage 18 for movably holding the support part 14; a support device 16 being a drive device rotating or linearly moving the support part 14; and a plurality of spot illuminators 29 positioned on both sides to an imaging direction of the camera 22 by illuminating a blade edge ridge line of the workpiece 12 from different angles.
