PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester resin aqueous dispersion excellent in storage stability over a long period, and furthermore to obtain a coated layer which can be easily coated on a base material with the use of the polyester resin aqueous dispersion, and a tough coat. SOLUTION: In the process for producing the polyester resin aqueous dispersion by dissolving a polyester resin in an organic solvent and adding water to the system under stirring to cause phase inversion and self-emulsification, the polyester resin is dissolved in the organic solvent so as for the solid content concentration to come to 35% to less than 70%, and then the temperature within the system is maintained at 60°C or lower on adding water to cause phase inversion.
