DETECTION OF THE ONSET OF AN APNOEA

The onset of an apnoea can be reliably detected if a number of sample values describing the respiratory sound of a patient is block processed and if a fingerprint with a predetermined number of fingerprint coefficients is determined for a number of sample values within a block, said fingerprint describing a signal progression of the sample values within said block. Since the number of fingerprint coefficients is lower than the number of sample values within the block, a comparison of the fingerprint coefficients with reference fingerprint coefficients that are characteristic of the signal progression at the onset of an apnoea can be carried out efficiently and reliably in order to detect the onset of the apnoea.
