The device has an energy converter for cooling off an external heat reservoir for the purpose of performing mechanical work. A high concentration of particle appears in a place in the energy converter during the sorting of particles and the construction of the energy converter. The removal of energy is compensated by the process of the relaxation of the high concentration of particles (and/or use of the relaxation in a turbine) and/or according the different sizes of the kinetic energies by heat exchange with the external heat reservoir. A relaxed high concentration particles are used for performing the work (for e.g. generation of electric current or mechanical work). An independent claim is included for the method for energy generation.
