PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a ratio that enables reading without dust when there is dust in first priority-color data in a color CCD during monochrome mode reading in a DF mode. SOLUTION: A scanning position of an image sensor is fixed at a prescribed position during DF mode reading, so as to read a DF background plate prior to original-manuscript reading. When there is dust in the first priority-color data during the monochrome mode reading, the monochrome mode reading is executed by using other-color data without dust. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
