PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a content recording and reproducing device which can select erasable contents based on the information to identify the user operating the device when a free space is not sufficient to record contents on a recording medium. SOLUTION: This content recording and reproducing device has a means to record contents on a recording medium, a means to reproduce recorded contents, a means to check whether or not the free space is not sufficient on a recording medium by subtracting the capacity required for recording the contents from the free space on the recording medium, a means to obtain the user information to identify the user operating the device when decided that the free space is not sufficient, and a selector to select erasable contents based on the obtained user information.
