PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder having improved workability in terms of inspection and replacement of respective sensors by getting access to respective sensors in the same direction during a maintenance work. SOLUTION: The automatic document feeder 10 includes: a turnback type feed path 24 having an upper feed path 24a to which a document is fed from a document supply tray 13, and a lower feed path 24b for returning the document to a document discharge tray 14; and also, sensors 27 and 31 for detecting the passing timing of the document fed along the upper feed path 24a and the lower feed path 24b. A freely attachable/detachable sensor cover 37 is provided on the upper surface of an inner guide unit part 35 constituting the inside of the feed path 24, and also, both sensors 27 and 31 are loaded to the inner guide unit part 35 while being positioned under the sensor cover 37 so that the sensors 27 and 31 can be freely attached/detached from the above.
